Airnimal Joey Explore
The Joey Explore is the cheaper alternative to the Explore Elite. Whilst still offering the same overall gear range as the Rohloff the Sram dual drive hub combines external and internal gears to achieve its 500+ % range. The Explore also features 507 rims, giving extra strength and a good choice of larger profile high performance tyres. A great choice for those who need the quick fold of the Joey with a wider range of gears, but don't want the added expense of the Rohloff.

Wheel Size The 24" ISO 520 wheel size is unusual, but offers a number of advantages, both for folding and dynamically. The smaller size gives significant weight and aerodynamic advantages, whilst at the same time, combined with their carefully considered steering geometry, gives a very good/excellent balance of manoeuvrability and stability. Tyre/Rim Availability The 24" ISO 520 is an unusual size, but is used by a number of large manufacturers and there are a number of high quality rims and tyres available. Rims are made by Velocity, Alex, Araya, HED and Sun and tyres by Panaracer, Specialized, Kenda, Primo, Odyssey and Terry.
Packing Times We define 3 levels of fold, but often something 'in between' is sufficient to fit the bike where you want. The first level, car boot/commute fold can be done if under 30 seconds. If required, for protection or regulations, the folded bike can be folded into its dedicated shoulder bag in a further 60 seconds.
The second level, fitting the bike into a suitcase for airline or other travel, can be done in around 180 seconds. That is for a bike without mudguards or racks (both of which will fit into the case) and without packing any other luggage or accessories.
The third level is to fit the bike into a rucksack that meets the carry on dimensions of most major airlines and takes around 15 minutes.

Easy to fold? In a word, yes! For the first fold, everything is by quick release. The front wheel and seat post are removed and the seat tower and main folded around pivots.
The suitcase fold requires the above plus back wheel and pedal removal (they have some very neat quick release pedals) and finally the handlebar is removed from its stem by undoing two allen key bolts.
The third, carry-on fold requires the above plus fork and rear derailleur removal. This might sound a little daunting, but they have designed the headset arrangement to make fork removal and re-installation a simple procedure.

All Folding Bikes are thoroughly prepared and checked in the workshop in order to validate the warranties, this involves a thorough setup and adjustment of spokes, bearings, brakes, gears (stops and cable adjustment). The chainset and crank, handlebars and all nuts and bolts are checked for tightness and the pedals fitted. Finally the tyre pressures are set and the folding joints and all quick releases are lubricated and adjusted. After a brief test ride (mainly indoor) they are then carefully packed back into the original boxes using appropriate packaging, this means that the bikes when received and unfolded are ‘ready to ride’ . All 26” wheel Dahon bikes arrive in the UK in boxes with the frame unfolded but the bike partially dismantled. We have taken the decision that in order to properly achieve our highest aim and that of the responsible manufacturers with whom we liase, that we therefore, properly prepare then fold the completed bike with only the handlebar removed, it is therefore necessary for us to repackage the bike accordingly on account of it’s larger size when assembled.
